Money is useless in heaven. So here are a few tips to share your warmth and generosity while going light on your pocket.
First, your hair. Remember to keep it clean and neatly combed or tied. This summer, instead of going for a shorter hair cut, how about you learn to style it well and keep it out of your face and neck. It would be horrible to have your hair fall all over the place and tickle you. Its likely to become grimy and limp because of the heat and humidity. Remember to keep it clean and tidy.
I have had short hair for as long as I can remember. So I am the last person to discourage you to go for a short haircut. However, I am growing my hair this time and I don't want summer to cramp my style. I intend to keep growing it. I have, therefore, learnt quite a few hairstyles that will keep my hair in place and make me look the best I can. If you want to try a new hairstyle, ask your hair dresser to suggest a style that will suit the shape of your face. Boycut, bob and mushroom cuts are favorites during summer. It is easier for guys to go for summer cuts. They can afford to have crew cut. It looks cool and feels light. The adventurous few could even try the Onida- devil look! Remember that you must feel comfortable with your haircut and carry it with grace. Even if its a different style, very different from what you've had so far, all you need to do is pretend that you're a different person. :) Its great fun and an amusing way to relax this summer.
You must keep yourself hydrated all the time. Its very hot and we're all very vulnerable to the heat. Drink lots and lots of water and other fluids. Squash, juice, iced tea and cold coffee of different flavors are easy to make and very refreshing too. Try and avoid aerated drinks and alcohol; they are not the healthiest of drinks. Remember to pay greater attention to young kids and pets, this summer. If you are an animal lover or care about birds, a bird bath or just a bowl of water on your porch may go a long way in relieving the thirst of birds and other animals on the streets. Hydrating yourself will give you a brilliant glow not just on the surface but from within, that'll reflect on your personality and temperament. Take cool refreshing baths, often, and that'll take off a bit of your tan as well. And most importantly, remember not to waste even a drop of water. Its becoming more and more precious and a little bit of caution will go a long way in protecting our limited resources.
Now that we're done with the hair, and skin, how about we deciding on what clothes to wear, this summer? Something that is light weight and light colored, will definitely reflect some of the sun's harsh rays, and keep you from over heating. Frocks are back in style. Floral prints look good and make you look young and vivacious. Straight cuts look chic while flowing dresses may give a bouncy and freer feel. Skirts with matching blouses would also look great. For guys, I would suggest white cotton shirts and shorts or bermudas. Summer hols are here! Pair whatever you wear with sun glasses and wide-brimmed hats. If you're the more conventional type, you may want to try funky looking umbrellas. They'll also be handy during the monsoon which is going to set in very soon. Chappals and sandals are back in vogue, so go on and try them. They would not only be light on your feet but also on your pocket.
Stay cool, stay fit and look hip. Enjoy summer while it lasts! :D
Gifts for loved ones? Hmmm. Now lets see. Sun glasses would look glamorous on anyone and will make your loved one feel extra special. It would be perfect as a summer gift. A straw hat with flowers or a cowboy hat would be less expensive and would do very nicely as well. How about getting them a juicer that would help them stay hydrated and healthy while you too can enjoy a refreshing cool drink with them.
Have you ever made hand-held fans? I'm sure you have. As a kid, I used to love making them using paper. They can be made out of straw or even bamboo reed, whichever is easier to find. Hand paint them to give a personal touch and there you are, a perfectly sensible and wonderful present for your loved one. A gift that will remind them of you while they remain cool and look pretty.
Time for some entertainment!
Make fruit slush, ice-cream floats and aam panna for your tired and thirsty guests. I will give you the recipe for an easy way to make green mango juice that is not just amazingly delicious but also immensely good for you.
